Dawn of war 4

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III

Since the announcement of the abandonment of the game on February 8, 2018 by the developers (actually the news came out on a website external to Relic) there have been no news about the franchise regarding possible future content as the company said. I understand that Relic with this statement discarded performing: FreeLC, DLC’s and standalone expansions of the game. In other words, content outside the base game.

Looking at this scenario, I would like to know if Relic has in mind to do a fourth DoW title or if it would be willing to sell the franchise’s copyright to a developer company that is willing to do so.

It’s probably as dead as the Space Marine series is.

SEGA probably has control of the Dawn of War series at the moment so it’ll probably lay dormant for another couple of years unless someone buys it (and Relic) off them (that’s if SEGA is and any other publisher/developer is interested of course.

Dawn of war 3 failed utterly. The lead developer got fired and Relic ABANDONED the game less than a year after release.

Relic’s reputation is in tatters and DOW3 is basically a meme now running similar to CnC4. Another franchise ending failure.

AOE4 is an even bigger landmine. If Relic thought fans of dawn of war series is rabid, wait till they hear from fans of Age of Empires series.

I like the comment about the AoE4 landmine Reawaken a franchise 20 years later. the s**tstorm is garuanteed.

I’m not a big fan of the Relic strategy games and liked DoW1 best, I don’t see how taking cover is actually so integral to Warhammer, they just copied that over from their CoH games, let’s see what they’ll be doing to AoE.

One big point about DoW3 failing so bad is probably that Warhammer games are released like monthly newspapers as if the license was for free (Games Workshop?)

They abandon the game/License very fast,no keybinds ingame=They don’t care about customers that’s what Relic do.

Just in case it needs repeating, but don’t attack the developers, please.

(posts cleaned up)

The lead developer was never fired, he jumped ship to Capcom Vancouver for a while (whether management planned this or not is unknown to us) and is now back at Relic as the new narrative lead for Age of Empires IV, this could be viewed as disastrous depending on how you view the situation.

I don’t think it’s exciting for anyone, but then we don’t really know what he brings to the table.

It’s easy to scape-goat him as the lead-designer for DoW III, but we don’t know if he did the best he could with a poorly-conceived mission, or if he planned the mission from start to finish and utterly botched it.

Again, we don’t really know that. I suspect you’re probably right, but we’re just speculating and it could just as well have been a top-down directive along the lines of:

SEGA: THIS is the sort of game we’re going to pay you to make.

RELIC: Umm, are you sure that’s a good idea? Doesn’t sound like it.

SEGA: MOBA AND RTS. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

There are plenty of other multiplayer games with the main game mode requiring you to destroy or capture objectives (there are mountable MG nests, hotkey perks, controllable line units and vehicles) to be able to access the opposing teams spawn, are those games MOBAs too?

Also, is Chess a MOBA now? It has lanes, controllable grunt units, heroes, units die too fast, it has a power core (King) and turrets (Rooks).

EA Battlefront 2 is a MOBA now since the main game mode is objective based, there are turrets, a power core at the end, heroes, grunts, an item shop and abilities.

You get a MOBA! You get a MOBA! You get a MOBA! You get a MOBA! You get a MOBA! EVERYBODY GETS A MOBA.

There needs to be sufficient interest in the topics of:
A- The RTS genre
B- Warhammer 40k

Considering how recent this blunder was I would assume that Relic will stay far away from 40k for a while. Now IDEALLY if they produced a IV I would love to see a return to the original or even the second! (If you’ll excuse me, I have to go reinstall Dark Crusade)

Dow 1 was so groundbreaking, and loved by RTS players that there was hope Dow 3 would expand on that. And Dow 2was simply Company of Heroes gameplay with 40K skins, which is ok but not the defining Dow , like Dow 1 IMHO.

Dow 3 is more like Dow 1 than Dow 2 but with Hero units able to have a bigger influence on battles. The design of Dow 3 is good, I think the main problem was not enough maps. RTS games really need lots of maps, having 2-3 maps for 1v1 does not encourage players to play the game, you need at least eight to ten 1v1 maps then people will play imho.

I hope they work on Dow 3 more (yes I know Relic announced they not working on the game anymore for now) and release more maps, so it has a similar map pool to Dow 1.

Dawn of War III больше не будет получать обновления и отправляется в свободное плавание. Те товарищи, которым эта игра всё же пришлась по душе (а их, если верить статистике, единовременно набирается всего около пятисот человек), смогут продолжить играть.
